Sarcoptic mange (sarcoptes scabeii) is a skin condition that is highly contagious,  it is caused by mites and results in skin irritation and extensive loss of hair. It can result in death if untreated. Mange can be passed from foxes to dogs if they frequent each others’ living space. Mange can also be passed on from dogs to humans if they share the same areas, causing the same skin irritation and scratching. Fortunately for us scabies is self-limiting in humans, that is the mite can burrow under the skin and cause itching, but cannot complete its life cycle it dies within a few weeks.
